Berry : e.g., Tomato (Lycopersicon esculentum) The given specimen shows the following characters: 1. The pericarp is differentiated into outer epicarp, middle mesocarp and inner endocarp. 2. Endocarp is not distinct but fused with the meso carp to form a major fleshy part of the fruit. 3. Seeds are the only hard portions in the fruit. These are scattered in the fleshy part of the fruit. 4. The fruit develops from a bicarpellary superior ovary. From the above characters, the given specimen is identified as a   Berry which is a type of simple fleshy fruit.
